This image was part of a company project to showcase the Sensodyne Pronamel toothpaste and the results of acid erosion on tooth enamel from eating fruit. The strawberry tooth image shown was one part of the project with a range of fruit used as part of the campaign.
The strawberry tooth was modelled in 3ds Max with the seeds set into the surface using VRayDisplacement Modifier to control the depth that the seeds appeared to be sunk into the fruit/tooth. As opposed to using Substance Designer and ZBrush which were trialed for this project as part of the RnD phase of the project, this successful method allowed the seeds to be scattered and placed on the surface with more control and specific art direction from client.
The leaf also modelled in 3ds Max and small hairs were also added using VRayHairFur.
Lighting and rendering also completed in 3ds Max with Photoshop used to composite the final image. The shader for the strawberry used a subsurface scatter material and was enhanced in post to give the subtle variation in colour.
